Family Thanks Zoo Staff After Crocodile Attack Rescue

The family of a three-year-old boy seriously injured in a crocodile enclosure have thanked zoo staff who pulled him to safety during the incident in Cambridgeshire.
The child was injured at Johnsons of Old Hurst, near Huntingdon, on 18 June, after ending up inside the zoo’s crocodile enclosure.
Cambridgeshire Police said the boy remains in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he is now in a stable condition.
Family Thanks Zoo Staff After Rescue
In a statement issued through police, the family thanked the staff at the zoo who rescued their son from the enclosure.
They also thanked members of the public and medical teams involved in his care, while asking for privacy as the child continues treatment.
The family said their attention remains focused on his recovery and on supporting him through what they described as a prolonged and extremely challenging period.
The boy’s identity has not been released, and police said the family wishes to remain anonymous.
That privacy is central to how the case is being handled because the victim is a very young child.

Police Investigation Remains Active
Cambridgeshire Police said officers were called to the zoo at 1.24pm on 18 June after reports of an incident involving a three-year-old boy.
The force said the child suffered serious injuries after ending up in the crocodile enclosure.
Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Norfolk on suspicion of attempted murder.
He has since been released on bail until 18 September, and police said he was assessed as not fit for interview.
The man is not believed to have known the child.
Police have not announced charges, and the investigation remains active.

Boy Faces Long Recovery
A fundraising page set up to support the family said the boy has undergone multiple surgeries.
It said he is stable but faces a long recovery, both physically and psychologically.
His parents are staying by his side in hospital while he receives immediate and ongoing care.
Police said the fundraiser is intended to support the boy’s recovery and rehabilitation, as well as provide financial stability for the family in the coming months.
The family statement reflects the same focus.
Their priority is not the public attention around the case, but the child’s medical care and the difficult recovery ahead.

Crocodiles Not Seized or Put Down
The crocodiles have not been seized or put down by authorities.
The zoo is based at a farm in Old Hurst and has more than 100 animals, including crocodiles, lions, tigers and meerkats.
The crocodile enclosure is housed in a converted cattle barn, with elevated walkways and metal barriers around the enclosure area.
The presence of those barriers will likely form part of the wider investigation into how the child ended up inside the enclosure.
Police have not publicly set out the full sequence of events.
For now, the confirmed position is that a child was seriously injured, zoo staff rescued him, a man was arrested and bailed, and the boy remains in hospital recovering.
