A death investigation is underway in Plantation after a toddler was found dead inside an SUV outside an early childhood education center.
Police and fire crews responded Monday afternoon to A World of Discovery Academy on Northwest Fourth Street.
Plantation Police said the child was found inside a vehicle, and fire crews pronounced the child dead at the scene.

The child has been identified in local reports as a 23-month-old boy.
Police have not announced charges as of Tuesday afternoon.
The day care owner, Leslie Novoa, said she called 911 after she and the child’s father discovered the toddler in the back seat of the father’s vehicle.
Novoa said the father had arrived to pick up the child and then realized the boy had never been dropped off at the school.
Her account has not yet been followed by a public charging decision from police.
That distinction is important because the investigation remains active.

Police Focused on Day Care Parking Lot
Crime scene tape was placed across the parking lot after police arrived.
Investigators focused on a black SUV and placed a tent around the vehicle while evidence was gathered.
The scene remained active for hours Monday.
The child care center owner said the family had been connected to the school for years and described the parents as loving.
She also said the incident appeared to be a tragic failure to drop off the child, rather than something intentional.
Police have not publicly released the child’s full identity, cause of death or whether prosecutors will be asked to review charges.

No Charges Announced Yet
The Plantation case is being handled as a death investigation.
Police will need to establish the timeline from the morning routine to the afternoon discovery.
That can include vehicle evidence, phone records, interviews, surveillance video and temperature conditions.
In child vehicle-death cases, investigators often examine whether a child was unknowingly left inside, how long the child remained there and when the emergency call was made.
None of those findings has been publicly released by Plantation Police.
The day care owner said the father had not dropped the child off that morning.
That statement now sits at the center of the public account, but official investigative findings will determine what happens next.

Case Becomes Safety Reminder
The death has shaken parents at the preschool and the surrounding community.
Several parents described the incident as heartbreaking and urged families to check back seats every time they leave a vehicle.
Florida heat can make parked vehicles dangerous quickly, especially for young children.
Safety experts often advise caregivers to place a needed item in the back seat, use child-reminder alerts and confirm day care drop-off routines.
Those reminders do not reduce the loss for the family.
They do show why police, parents and child care centers treat vehicle checks as a daily safety habit.
For now, the official position remains limited: a toddler was found dead inside a vehicle, the death is under investigation, and no charging decision has been announced.
