Two lots of Pedigree wet dog food have been recalled in the United States after the product may have entered the marketplace despite being intended for destruction.

The FDA-posted company announcement says Mars Petcare US is recalling Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2-ounce wet dog food for dogs.

Two Lot Codes Are Named in the Recall

The recall applies only to lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC.

The product is Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2-ounce wet dog food. No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare US products are listed as affected in the FDA-posted announcement.

Mars Petcare said the recalled cans may contain metal and plastic foreign material. Sharp foreign material could create choking, laceration or gastrointestinal blockage risks if consumed by a dog.

The company said it had received no related reports of pet illness or injury as of the announcement.

The Unusual Detail Is How the Product Reached Buyers

This recall is not only about a possible contamination issue. The company said the two lots had been sent to a third-party vendor for destruction after failing to meet safety and quality standards.

Mars Petcare later discovered that the product appeared to have been fraudulently diverted and sold into the U.S. marketplace.

That detail changes the consumer task. Pet owners cannot rely on the brand name or the product flavor alone; they need to check the exact lot code on the bottom of the can.

The FDA notice also says Mars is working with authorities to determine how the products entered the marketplace.

What Dog Owners Should Do Now

Anyone who finds either lot code should stop feeding the product to animals immediately.

The company directed consumers to contact Pedigree Consumer Care for a replacement, with the FDA notice listing 1-800-525-5273 and the official Pedigree update page for questions.

Pet owners who already fed the product to a dog and are concerned should contact a veterinarian. The recall notice does not say every dog that ate the food will become ill.

The clearest action is a pantry check. Find the can, turn it over, match the lot code, and remove affected product from use.

Why This Recall Needs a Lot-Code Check

Pet food recalls often produce broad anxiety because brand names are easier to remember than lot codes.

This case is narrower than the search phrase may suggest. The recall covers two lots of one specific wet dog food product, not every Pedigree can or every Mars Petcare product.

The stronger angle is the distribution problem. If a product marked for destruction can still reach buyers, the recall becomes about both household pet safety and supply-chain control.

The next public question is whether authorities identify how the two lots moved from a destruction channel into retail availability.

💭 TheTrendsWire's Take

This recall stands out because the company says the product should not have been in the marketplace at all. For dog owners, the safest response is not panic over the brand; it is checking the two lot codes and removing only the affected cans.
