What We Know So Far
[CONFIRMED] Nathan Lowery, 17, and his 16-year-old brother launched an inflatable raft into Galveston Bay from a point approximately three miles out on the five-mile-long Texas City Dike at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Texas City Emergency Management Coordinator Joe Tumbleson, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
[CONFIRMED] The brothers either jumped from or fell off the raft and became separated in the water. The Texas City Fire Department Marine Unit rescued the 16-year-old, who was evaluated by paramedics and found to be physically unharmed.

What Authorities Have Said
Texas City Emergency Management Coordinator Joe Tumbleson confirmed the sequence of events and the transition to a recovery operation. No official statement has been issued regarding the likelihood of recovering Lowery alive given the time elapsed and water conditions.

What to Watch Next
Recovery operations resume Sunday at first light. Whether crews locate Nathan Lowery — and in what condition — is the critical development to follow.
The transition from search and rescue to recovery is a significant operational shift. It reflects the assessment by multiple agencies that survival is no longer the primary expectation given the time elapsed and the distance the raft was found from the original entry point.
