Pedro Devora Killed in Northridge Shooting

Los Angeles police are looking for answers after a fight reportedly came before the fatal shooting of Pedro Devora in Northridge.
Pedro Devora, 28, was found with multiple gunshot wounds early Sunday in the rear alley of an apartment building in Northridge, police said.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded at about 4:30 a.m. to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call involving shots fired in the 19100 block of Bryant Street.
Pedro Devora Found Behind Northridge Apartment Building
Responding officers found Devora suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the rear alley of the apartment property.
Life-saving efforts were attempted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the location appears to be connected to an apartment building area, with the shooting reported in the early-morning hours before many residents would normally be outside.
Detectives have not released a suspect name, arrest update or description of the person or people involved.
That leaves the investigation focused on the minutes before the gunfire.

Fight Before Shooting Is Key Detail
Detectives’ preliminary findings indicate a fight involving multiple people happened shortly before Devora was shot.
Police have not said what started the fight, whether Devora knew the other people involved or how many people remained at the scene after the shooting.
That single detail gives the case its first direction.
The shooting is not being presented publicly as random gunfire, but police have also not said enough to define it as a targeted attack, gang-related case or dispute between people who knew each other.
The distinction will depend on witness statements, surveillance video and forensic evidence from the alley.

Police Appeal Points to Missing Witnesses
The LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division’s Valley Section is handling the investigation.
Detectives Lopez and Simonyan are asking anyone with information to contact them at 818-374-9550.
During non-business hours or on weekends, police said callers should use 310-726-7700 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
Anonymous tips can also be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
That public appeal suggests investigators may still be building the basic sequence: who was present, where the fight began, who fired, and how the suspect left the area.

The Alley May Shape the Case
Rear alleys around apartment buildings can make homicide investigations harder when witnesses see only part of what happened.
A fight can start in one place, move out of view, and end before residents realize gunfire has occurred.
Police have not said whether cameras captured the shooting or whether any weapon was recovered.
They have also not announced whether multiple people are being sought.
For Devora’s family, the public facts are still painfully limited: a 28-year-old man was found behind an apartment building before sunrise, and the people who know what happened before the shots have not all been publicly identified.
The next official update will likely turn on one of three things: a suspect description, surveillance evidence, or a witness willing to explain how the fight became a killing.
TL;DR
