Marine Missing From USS Anchorage Off California Coast

A U.S. Marine has been missing since Thursday after going missing from the USS Anchorage during training off the coast of southern California.
The Navy shifted from search-and-rescue to search-and-recovery Friday night after more than 40 hours of searching.
What the Navy Has Confirmed
The Marine was reported missing around 1 a.m. local time on June 25, according to officials from the U.S. 3rd Fleet, while assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship during integrated training between the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.
Crews searched approximately 2,400 square miles using three surface ships and 12 aircraft, with personnel drawn from the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Air Force.

What Hasn't Been Released
The Navy has not released details about the circumstances surrounding the Marine's disappearance, and the service member's identity is being withheld for 24 hours after next-of-kin notification, in line with standard policy.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all who are affected during this difficult time," said Deputy Public Affairs Officer Lt. Alissa Whyte.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
