The Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty 108-88 Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, turning a competitive first half into a decisive WNBA result.

New York led by as many as 13 points late in the second quarter and took a 49-45 halftime lead. Indiana then overwhelmed the Liberty after the break, winning the third quarter 30-12 and carrying a 14-point advantage into the fourth.

Fever Third-Quarter Surge

New York shot 47% from the field and 56% from three-point range in the opening two quarters. The early efficiency created separation, but it did not survive Indiana's pressure and pace.

The Fever flipped the game immediately after halftime. Kelsey Mitchell scored 14 of her 33 points in the third quarter, matching New York's entire output in the period by herself. Indiana's movement created cleaner shots while the Liberty's possessions became shorter and less controlled.

The reversal was especially striking because Indiana was playing on the second night of a back-to-back and for the third time in four days. New York had not played for six days after its scheduled trip to Dallas was disrupted.

Mitchell Leads Indiana

Mitchell led all scorers with 33 points, supplying the finishing power behind Indiana's second-half breakaway. Caitlin Clark remained on a minutes restriction one night after recording a historic 45 points and 10 assists against Seattle, so the Fever needed another primary scorer to carry the heaviest load.

Mitchell did exactly that. Her third-quarter burst prevented New York from slowing the game or rebuilding its halftime structure. Indiana also won the bench scoring battle 31-14, giving the Fever production beyond the starting lineup.

The final margin reflected more than shooting. New York committed 17 turnovers, and Indiana turned them into 30 points. The Fever also scored 18 second-chance points from eight offensive rebounds, repeatedly converting extra possessions into damage.

Liberty Turnovers Prove Costly

The Liberty's 13-point lead began disappearing before halftime. A transition three, a flagrant-foul sequence and another perimeter make helped Indiana reduce the deficit to four by the break.

New York never stabilized after that sequence. Its turnovers fed Indiana's transition game, while missed opportunities at the other end prevented the Liberty from interrupting the Fever's run. What had been a four-point New York lead became a 75-61 Indiana advantage after three quarters.

The result split the first two 2026 meetings. New York won 83-75 on June 6, but Indiana's 20-point victory in Indianapolis provided the stronger statement before the teams' next matchup.

WNBA Standings Impact

Indiana improved its position among the league's leading teams, while New York fell to 13-12 after losing eight of its last 10 games. The Liberty remain in the playoff picture, but their margin for repeated second-half collapses is shrinking.

For the Fever, the win showed that their offense can function through multiple creators. Mitchell's scoring, the bench advantage and the pressure created from New York's mistakes mattered as much as any single highlight.

The next test is whether Indiana can reproduce that balanced formula after the break. For New York, ball security and second-half execution are the urgent corrections.

💭 TheTrendsWire's Take

The headline number is 108 points, but the more revealing figures are 30 points off turnovers and a 31-14 bench advantage. Indiana did not merely shoot past New York; it punished nearly every structural weakness the Liberty showed. New York's six-day rest offered no protection once the game became faster and more physical, while the Fever looked sharper despite a heavier schedule.
