A 93-year-old woman has died after police said she was struck by a motorcycle in a Bronx hit-and-run.

Leonora Campbell was crossing the street near her home on Monday afternoon when she was hit at East 255th Street and White Plains Road, according to police.

The NYPD said the motorcyclist left the scene after the collision.

The crash happened at around 2.30pm on Monday.

Police said Campbell was in the crosswalk when she was struck by a Yamaha motorcycle.

She was taken to hospital after the crash but could not be saved.

Campbell lived only a few blocks from the intersection where she was hit.

The motorcyclist was described in reports as a 31-year-old man.

No arrests had been announced after the collision.

NYPD Searches for Rider

The case is being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run.

Police said the rider left after striking Campbell instead of remaining at the scene.

That decision now sits at the center of the investigation.

Detectives will likely examine traffic cameras, private surveillance video, witness accounts and the motorcycle’s route before and after the crash.

The Yamaha description may also help investigators identify the vehicle involved.

No suspect has been publicly named by police.

The absence of an arrest means the investigation remains open.

Crosswalk Death Raises Safety Concerns

Campbell’s death adds another pedestrian fatality to New York City’s road-safety crisis.

The detail that she was in a crosswalk makes the case especially troubling for nearby residents.

Crosswalks are meant to be the safest point for pedestrians to move through an intersection.

For elderly pedestrians, the risk is higher because crossing time, reaction speed and injury vulnerability are all different from younger adults.

A motorcycle collision can cause catastrophic injuries even at ordinary city speeds.

Police have not publicly released the motorcycle’s speed or whether traffic signals were involved.

Public Asked to Share Tips

The NYPD is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

The official NYPD Crime Stoppers program allows anonymous tips by phone, online or through its mobile app.

Police said tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-577-TIPS.

Spanish-speaking callers can use 1-888-57-PISTA.

The next stage of the case depends on identifying the rider and confirming the sequence of events at the intersection.

For Campbell’s family and neighbors, the investigation now carries two questions.

How did a routine street crossing become fatal, and why did the motorcyclist leave before police arrived?
