Jonathan Fleming Sentenced for North Texas Bank Robberies

A Denton man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after authorities said a bank robbery investigation was helped by cash deposits and vehicle purchases.

Jonathan Mark Fleming, 41, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bank robbery.

U.S. District Judge Richard Schell imposed the sentence on Monday.

Jonathan Fleming Sentenced in Federal Case

Fleming was accused of robbing banks across the Denton County area between November 2022 and February 2023.

Authorities said the robberies involved about $450,000 in cash.

Court evidence described a suspect wearing black clothing, black gloves, a black face covering and black ski goggles during the robberies.

A firearm was also brandished during the heists, according to the case summary.

The sentence brings the federal criminal case into its punishment phase after Fleming’s guilty plea.

Denton Police Linked Earlier Robberies

Denton Police had publicly identified Fleming in 2023 after investigations into robberies in Denton and Flower Mound.

In an archived Denton Police release, the department said Fleming was a Denton resident taken into custody after detectives connected him to Wells Fargo and Flower Mound bank robbery investigations.

Police said the November 2022 Wells Fargo robbery involved a man with a firearm who directed a teller to take him to the bank vault.

The department also said the Flower Mound case had similarities to the Denton robbery.

Denton PD, Flower Mound PD and the FBI later executed a warrant at Fleming’s residence.

That earlier arrest became the foundation for the federal case that has now ended with a prison sentence.

Vehicle Trail Helped Unravel Case

Investigators said Fleming’s vehicles became a key lead.

A red Dodge Challenger was spotted in connection with the first two robberies.

By the third robbery, authorities said the suspect had moved to a Dodge Ram TRX truck.

Investigators traced the truck to a dealership and found that Fleming had purchased it using a cash down payment and the trade-in of a red Dodge Challenger.

That link helped connect the vehicle pattern to a named suspect.

Police later searched Fleming’s apartment in Denton and recovered items they said matched robbery surveillance evidence.

Those items included black ski goggles, face coverings, a gun belt and a black-and-gray duffel bag.

Cash Deposits Became Evidence

Authorities also said they recovered cash still bound in original bank currency bands.

Investigators found multiple firearms, including a Smith & Wesson handgun believed to have been used in the first robbery, two AR-style rifles and a newly purchased Glock handgun.

Bank receipts showed large cash deposits across different accounts.

Those deposits reportedly ranged from $19,000 to $40,000.

The case shows how financial activity after a robbery can become as important as the robbery footage itself.

Large cash deposits, vehicle upgrades and purchase records can give investigators a trail to compare with bank losses, surveillance images and witness accounts.

The investigation was handled by the FBI with Denton, Lewisville and Flower Mound police departments.

Fleming’s 78-month sentence now closes the federal sentencing stage, though restitution and supervision terms may continue to shape the case after prison.
