⚠️ This is a developing story. Details below reflect the latest information available at time of publishing and may be updated as more becomes known.

Jockey Frankie Dettori suffered several broken ribs and a broken thumb. He was involved in a car crash near Newmarket, Suffolk, on Wednesday evening, his management has confirmed.

What's Known So Far

A spokesperson for H Talent Management said another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car the 55-year-old was driving. The impact caused it to spin and flip.

The collision happened on the A1304 London Road near Six Mile Bottom, just over the border in Cambridgeshire, at around 7pm.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed they were called to the scene. No arrests have been made.

The East of England Ambulance Service said two patients were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further assessment and treatment. Dettori's specific injuries were still being evaluated as he remained in hospital for further scans and observation.

Not His First Serious Crash

This isn't the first time Dettori has survived a serious accident near Newmarket. In June 2000, he survived a light aircraft crash in the same area that killed pilot Patrick Mackey.

Fellow jockey Ray Cochrane was aboard the same flight. He also survived and later became Dettori's agent.

Dettori's racing career spans more than 35 years. He remains one of the sport's most recognizable figures internationally, having ridden winners across multiple continents and major championship races.

What This Means for His Comeback

Dettori has not ridden competitively in Britain since October 2023, when he won the Champion Stakes on King of Steel at Ascot. He had been due to return to the saddle for the Leger Legends race at Doncaster during September's St Leger Festival.

That comeback appearance is now in question, depending on his recovery timeline.

H Talent Management described the incident as an "accident." They asked that Dettori's privacy be respected while he focuses on recovery. "No further comment will be made until there is a meaningful update," the statement said.

What We're Still Waiting to Learn

The full extent of Dettori's injuries has not yet been confirmed. Neither has a recovery timeline, or whether his planned September comeback remains realistic.

We'll update this story as his management or medical team release further details.
