A week of searching in Coatbridge ended with an arrest on Monday, closing out one chapter of a case that shook the local community.
Police Scotland confirmed a 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a teenage girl, and he is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on 4 August.
What Happened
The incident occurred while the 17-year-old survivor was walking along a lane near Blair Road and Auldhame Street at around 1am on Sunday, 28 June.
Officers launched a manhunt immediately following the report, which continued for a full week before the arrest was made on Monday, 6 July.
The Police Response
Detective Inspector Lorraine Wilson said incidents of this nature "can cause a great deal of concern," and that officers have continued engaging with the local community to provide reassurance throughout the investigation.

Police Scotland has not released further details about the suspect or the specific charges beyond confirming the arrest and pending court date, consistent with standard practice ahead of a first court appearance.
💭 TheTrendsWire's Take
A week is a genuinely fast turnaround for an assault case with no immediate suspect identified at the scene, and Wilson's specific thanks to the public suggests tips from the community — not just forensic evidence — helped close the gap quickly. That's worth noting given how often these cases stretch on for months without an arrest.
