Boy, 14, Charged With Murder of Jamal Coombes in Battersea

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jamal Coombes, killed in a stabbing in Battersea in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The suspect โ from Wandsworth, and not named for legal reasons โ is due at Highbury Corner Youth Court later today.
What Happened on Glycena Road
Police were called to Glycena Road, Battersea at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, following reports of a stabbing.
Officers arrived alongside the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance and found Jamal with serious injuries.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 17 years old.
According to the Metropolitan Police's official statement, issued Monday, June 22, Jamal's family are being supported by specialist officers.

The Charges and the Court Date
The 14-year-old was charged on Monday, June 22, with murder and possession of a bladed article.
He is due to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court this morning โ the designated youth court for serious offences involving defendants under 18 in the London area.
Youth courts in England operate under different rules to adult courts. The defendant cannot be publicly named while they remain under 18, and the proceedings are generally closed to the public, though journalists may report what is said in open court.

Three More Suspects Still Being Investigated
The charge does not close the investigation.
A boy and a girl, both aged 15 and arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
A fourth suspect โ a boy aged 15, arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, June 21 โ remains in police custody as of Monday morning, according to the Metropolitan Police statement. The involvement of four suspects aged 14 and 15 in a single investigation reflects a pattern Metropolitan Police commanders have flagged repeatedly in recent years โ incidents where multiple teenagers are either present at or directly involved in a fatal stabbing, often in the early hours.

What Comes Next
The Highbury Corner Youth Court hearing today will be the first formal appearance for the 14-year-old defendant.
At this stage, the court is expected to consider bail and set a timetable for further proceedings. A trial date is unlikely to be set at this initial hearing.
The status of the two teenagers released on bail, and the 15-year-old still in custody, will be determined as the Metropolitan Police investigation continues. All four remain suspected of involvement in Jamal's death.
