A 7-month-old girl was fatally shot in a St. Louis home by a 10-year-old boy, police said.

The infant later died at the hospital.

The Shooting in North St. Louis

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting around 4 p.m. Friday in the 8400 block of North Broadway in the Baden neighborhood.

Officers found the 7-month-old girl, identified as Kiyomi Parker, suffering from a gunshot wound. They placed her in a police SUV and rushed her to the hospital while performing first aid. She was later pronounced dead.

According to police, a preliminary investigation determined that a 10-year-old boy shot the baby. He was taken into custody, and detectives are working with Juvenile Courts on next steps.

A 19-year-old was also arrested after questioning on gun-related charges. Homicide and child abuse investigators are conducting a joint investigation.

Police and Neighbor Accounts

St. Louis police spokesperson Mitch McCoy said officers did not wait for an ambulance. One officer drove while another provided life-saving care in the back seat.

McCoy said investigators do not believe the girl shot herself and are not searching for other suspects.

A neighbor described hearing loud gunshots that sounded like fireworks and saw a woman running outside saying her baby had been shot.
